Yes, why do people use animal names. It would seem very backward to admire animals, and knowing they can be fierce predators, and lustfollowers.
There may be a point to this of esoteric value though. As we know Steve Jobs was a fan of LSD, and never went back on giving LSD a status as one of the most siginicant experiences of his life, and the company name “apple” and logo shows an apple with a bite having been taken.
That is a referance to the tree of eternity in the Bible, and the Quran.
Psychoactive mushrooms, often grow near pine trees, and can be seen as fallen fruit from the tree.
That of naming things, or even people according to animals, one also sees among native americans, due to shamanic practises.
And a point of (rather great) esoteric value, is that the shaman (which LSD users really mimick), gains insight into the divine nature of the beast, and such gain great respect for it.
Because that divine nature, is yourself.
And thus, the name of “Lion” may be related to that, but I cannot say that for sure ofcourse.
Psychedelic experiences differ from natural mystical experiences in that divinity often presents itself as animal.
And mainly since there is too much negative statistics involved with psychedelics, nobody can really recommend it to anyone. And in Abrahamic religion it was forbidden with Adam. And possibly a preshamanic culture, and even animism before that were covered over, probably because nobody wanted to know about it.
Eternity is the greatest concept, and ofcourse what we know as “God”, or any other equally significant entity. Also ofcourse in modern times as “the observer creates the universe” of Quantum-mechanics.
Because the outcome of the drug varies greatly, some claim to experience God, and only positive things, while others talk about gods, and worship the mushroom itself as a god, which is kind of fairytale thinking, and at the most extreme, some also kill themselves.
It cannot be recommended for anyone. Eternity is just not something you mess with.
And most popular users show regret, shame and ambivalence related to the drug, and that makes it difficult to face life in a decent society, and life before God, and death itself.
Even so many still use it, and I personally find it to have at times even great esoteric value, although I could never do it myself, simply because I enjoy life with a clean conscience. Once you have purified yourself by living a moral life, these things become absurd.
But art like, for instance in the game, Half Life 2, seems to be inspired by psychedelics. Once you realize that these things are inspired by “the tree of eternity”, AKA eternity itself, you can imagine some breathtaking art. Or “impossible objects that if the world knew, they would go mad”, as Terence McKenna puts it. Eternity is the greatest concept, and one can understand their reverence of animals, if indeed they represent divine eternal nature, to the namer.
Peace!
